Graphika Manila 2011

We got better seats this year! A perk for being early. Hahaha. All of the talks were good, but I liked Sir Dan and Weta Digital’s the best. Sir Dan’s talk was inspiring and motivating to all of us baby designers (and funny!), while Weta had a mind blowing presentation.

Special thanks to Maggie for the photos! (I didn’t bring my camera this year. Boo.)

Graphika Manila

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to attend Graphika Manila with the gurlz, Val, Pampy, Eunice, and Maggie.

Saw Cel there with her sister, but I didn’t get to take pictures of her/a picture with her. (Cel, you looked so pretty in your dress! Hee.)

It was our first time to attend Graphika, and we really had fun. The speakers were awesome: Danny Yount, Tara McPherson, Robotsheep, Phunk Studio, Arnold Arre & Cynthia Bauzon-Arre, and Underground Logic.

I learned a lot from their tips and their stories, but mostly from how they render and come up with their works. It was such a privilege to hear these people talk about what they do with such passion and excitement, it made me so happy. The whole event inspired to get my lazy butt into sketching stuff again.

It was just a bit annoying that we were seated in the middle even though we were there early.

I loved all of the talks (you go, Phunk) but my favorite speaker was Mister Avid. Not only because he was so funny and entertaining, and because he came from UP (represent!), but because he made me realize that I had to work with what I have to create better material. Drama.

I have this tendency to think of things that I want to do but obviously can’t pursue right now (due to a number of reasons), and it made me re-think of those ideas –not necessarily throwing those ideas away, but taking smaller steps to achieve them. In short, magpaka-realistic. Haha. (It’s funny how I follow him here in Tumblr, but never knew about Rocketsheep. Ang weird lang e. Hahaha.)

It was such a wonderful experience. I’m definitely coming back next year.
